Description
The Mother of pearl is a natural material composed mainly of aragonite and protein substances connected to each other and forming a compact and resistant structure.
The arrangement of aragonite crystals makes the interaction with light generates the iridescent characteristics visible on the surface of the gem.
The Mother of Tahiti is produced by the valves of some marine molluscs inhabitants of the warm waters of the Pacific Ocean, such as the Pinctada margaritifera.
The structure of the valves consists of mineral substances (aragonite) and organic (proteins) intimately connected to each other. The interaction of light with the aragonite crystals creates games of diffraction and diffusion of light that generates the particular iridescences visible on the surface.
THERE'Apatitis is a calcium phosphate that crystallizes in the hexagonal system. Its name comes from the Greek apatà which means "engaging", because the physical properties resemble those of other gems such as the topazio, the tormaline and the togolusite.
Not only does the physical properties "engaging", but also the wide range of colors in which this gem exists, often creates difficulties of recognition with other gems. In fact, there are many colours such as green, blue, purple, yellow and colourless.
