Among the minerals belonging to the sulphur mineralogical group, the calcopirite has a vivid brass yellow color with metallic shine, which often, erroneously and superficially, is mistaken for gold, but has nothing to do with the precious metal, for this is also known as "crash gold".

Calcopirite is a copper and iron sulphide with CuFeS2 formula, and crystallizes in the tetragonal system. The name comes from Greek words chalkos (black) and pyr (fire);

Calcopirite specimens can never fail in a mineralogical collection that respects; is rarely found in crystals, the massive forms are more common, thanks to the metallic yellow color and the iridescent oxidation spots, are an attractive point of the collections.
