Description
The Thulite is a rare variety of semi-translucent zoisitis that distinguishes itself for a particular shade of rose-reddish, whose intensity depends on the amount of manganese present. Often it also has areas black, grey or white caused by prwithout calcite or quartz.
The thulite was discovered in Norway in Sauland, in the Telemark region, in 1820. It is named after Thule, the name that in ancient times belonged to what we know today as Norway.
