Among the most beautiful and scenic meteorites are undoubtedly the Basketball, a type of extraterrestrial material consisting of a metal matrix of iron and nickel, in which are enclosed crystals of peridot (olivine).

The origin of these meteorites dates back to about 4.5 billion years ago, and it is the same age as the solar system!

According to the most recent studies it derives from real "contri" between asteroids: after dismembering in smaller pieces, they were intercepted by the earth's orbit and once entered the anosphere and disintegrated almost entirely, some fragments kept intact reaching the ground.

The name comes from the German naturalist Peter Simon Pallas, who in 1772 found the first specimen in Siberia near Krasnojarsk. His discovery was fundamental to determine the existence of meteorites, which was incredible for the time.

The finds of the Pallasites are entirely random and distributed throughout the world, however the most frequent finds happen in the most remote areas of the earth, such as the antarctica and the great deserts.
