Description
The Mother of Tahiti is produced by the valves of some marine molluscs inhabitants of the warm waters of the Pacific Ocean, such as the Pinctada margaritifera.
The structure of the valves consists of mineral substances (aragonite) and organic (proteins) intimately connected to each other. The interaction of light with the aragonite crystals creates games of diffraction and diffusion of light that generates the particular iridescences visible on the surface.
The Freshwater Pearl is composed of calcium carbonate and born from the bivalve mollusc called Hyriopsis schlegeli who lives in lakes and rivers.
